Last night's Charity Cup match between The Armed Forces FA (ATM) and Kelantan marked the beginning of the new Malaysian League season. With Kelantan winning the treble, ATM were chosen as the opponent as the 2012 Malaysia Cup runners-up.
Both teams were level at the end of the ninety minutes after Kelantan had taken the lead through Indra Putra Mahyuddin around the hour mark. However, a superb free-kick by Irwan Fadzli Idrus four minutes from time forced a penalty shoot-out as extra-time are not played for this match.
The first three penalties by either side were successfully converted but the next pair of takers, Rizal Fahmi and R. Surendran failed to find the net. Daudsu Jamaluddin then stepped up but he also missed from the spot allowing Bruno Martelotto to become ATM's hero by converting his chance.
